Mighty Crown, not only the leading figure in Japan but an international reggae ambassador and icon, is a championing soundsystem formed in 1991 in Yokohama.
MCs stirring up the crowd and selectors dropping tough rhythms, Mighty Crown crew have been championing the skills of storytelling the message and amplifying the power of music. Entering the deadly world of soundclash from early days both locally and internationally proving their artistry in getting the crowd going, winning “World Clash in New York” in 1999 beating every top reggae sounds in the world made them the first Asian champion of the international soundclash. Since then, they have been known as the world prestige reggae sound spending one third of a year touring around the world from North America, Caribbeans to Europe, winning 7 world championship as well as holding 22 trophies to date. Even awarded as contributors of soundsystem culture in mecca of reggae music, Jamaica, it is now a fact they are truly the reggae icons of today.
Mighty Crown consists of the founding members and brothers MASTA SIMON & SAMI-T, selector and SAMI-T’s old friend from NYC era, COJIE, as well as NINJA, based in NYC - the second home to the sound. Consistently on tour causing storms in club gigs and festivals whether as the crew or on their own, they are expanding the reggae genre by having “faith and style” and collaborating with artists from other genres such as HipHop, and rocking the crowd on big festivals.
Apart from being players and performers, Mighty Crown hosts “Yokohama Reggae Festival” in their home town in Japan and organising dozens of events yearly and running Life Style Records as well as producing their own clothing line. Celebrated their 25th anniversary last year the crew is still humbled, always challenging new things and unlocking the next phase.
