Traditions - When (Coloured Vinyl)

Traditions - When (Coloured Vinyl) / Train Is Coming

Channel One/Digikiller/Deeper Knowledge US

¥2100 (US$18.56)

Two killer unreleased tunes from the early '80s. The Traditions were a group with seemingly no other released tunes. We suspect one of the members was Roy "Soft" Palmer, the late Greenwich Farm singer. Roy, with only a handful of solo cuts to his name, was seemingly more often a harmony singer than a lead singer, as he was part of both "The Spears" who backed Junior Ross, and "The Nazarines" who backed Frankie Jones (real name Anthony Palmer), who was also Roy's brother. In any case, "When" is at last a next cut to the rhythm used for Barrington Levy's "The Winner", a Channel 1 classic which long time Channel diehards have always wished had more cuts. "Get Ready" aka "Train is Coming" is yet another cut on the immortal "Fight Fight" rhythm which we just can't get enough of, hard Channel style. Both sides with dubs.

Barry Brown - Jah Jah We Are Calling

Barry Brown - Jah Jah We Are Calling / Take Your Time

Channel One/Digikiller/Deeper Knowledge US

¥2100 (US$18.56)

Killer previously unreleased Barry Brown from Channel 1, from early '80s sessions that at one point were slated to make up his aborted second LP for the label. Two slow and heavy Radics rhythms, no doubt these were played on dubplate by some of the sounds of the day.

Johnny Scar - United Africa

Johnny Scar - United Africa / Dub It In Africa

Solomonic/Dub Store Records JPN1986

¥2180 (US$19.27)

Bunny Wailer, respectfully called “The Blackheart Man”, produced Johnny Scar’s one-off recording ‘United Africa’. The mystic singer wrote this heavy roots song and sang with his unique chant like a voice of the roots reggae icon, Burning Spear. And the song appeared as 12”on the Solomonic Production imprint in 1986.

Bunny Wailer - Rise & Shine

Bunny Wailer - Rise & Shine / Solomonic Dub

Solomonic/Dub Store Records JPN1981

¥2180 (US$19.27)

Bunny continued to release records throughout the seventies that were never less than excellent and, as the new decade got underway, he came forward with one of his best ever releases: the militant clarion call 'Rise And Shine'. Stretched over two momentous sides of a UK twelve inch release, the record was a huge hit, but has been unavailable ever since. Bunny returned to the song on his superb 'Liberation' album at the close of the decade but the original cut has remained one of the most in-demand records on the 'revival' circuit.

Barry Brown - Praise Him; Dub

Barry Brown - Praise Him; Dub / Al Campbell - Jah Army

Channel One/Digikiller/Deeper Knowledge US1984

¥2040 (US$18.03)

Channel 1's lost and found series continues with a big ten-inch. This one features Barry Brown, with another unreleased vocal & dub, called "Praise Him", this time riding the same rhythm as Al Campbell's "Jah Army." The Al Campbell cut of course, is on the flip side, reissued for the first time since its original release on 12-inch on the Jedi label in the early '80s. "Jah Army" is presented as originally issued, in discomix format, vocal running into dub.

Leslie Butler - Reggae Rhapsody; Version

Leslie Butler - Reggae Rhapsody; Version / Willie Lindo - Mystic Mood; Version

Federal/Dub Store Records1973

¥1880 (US$16.62)

Classic ‘Rhapsody in Blue’, the original version of ‘Reggae Rhapsody’, was written by notable American composer and solo pianist George Gershwin in 1924. Nearly 50 years after, in 1973, Eumir Deodato edited the song and released it on CTI Records, which label was favored by Black music fans at that time. Leslie Butler recorded his keyboard version shortly after the release of Eumir Deodato version. This is another rare recording to be reissued for the very first time from the Federal catalogue. Side B features a Reggae fusion instrumental ‘Mystic Mood’ by Willie Lindo. The song became a hit and earned a position in his LP titled ‘Far and Distant’.

Leroy Smart - Love Me Tonight; Dub

Leroy Smart - Love Me Tonight; Dub / Super Chick - Bees Man; Dub

Channel One/Digikiller/Deeper Knowledge US

¥2280 (US$20.16)

A great double-sider, Leroy Smart's "Love Me Tonight" and Super Chick's "Bees Man." The Leroy is on the same killer riddim, which we call "Over Me", as tunes we've previously released by Barry Brown and Horace Andy. The Super Chick tune is the deejay cut to the "fight fight" riddim and one of our all-time favorite female deejay tunes. Both sides with dubs!

Bunny Wailer - Amagideon

Bunny Wailer - Amagideon / Amagideon Dub

Solomonic/Dub Store Records JPN1976

¥2180 (US$19.27)

Briefly available on a 12" Island single in the UK to promote Bunny's 'Black Heart Man' album but this is the first time it has been coupled with the awesome Sylvan Morris and Karl Pitterson mixed dub version that first appeared on Bunny's criminally neglected 'Dub D'sco' album. Here we have a totally different mix demonstrating the strength and ability of this authoritative rhythm to take any amount of interpretations. 'Amagideon' was also versioned by Augustus Pablo for his seven inch Message release 'Pablo's Armageddon'.
