Cornell Campbell - Nothing Don't Come Easy / Version
Jammys / Dub Store Records JPN 1987
¥1380 (US$9.11)
Even after releasing the legendary “Sleng Teng” rhythm, King Jammy continued to produce hits after hits such as “Punnany”, “Duck” and many more. There is no doubt that he was at the top of the digital dancehall scene back then. Although he had put out an uncountable number of releases towards the end of the 80’s, this is one of the popular and rare tunes among record collectors. Beautifully sang in falset by Cornell Campbell on this melancholic digital rhythm makes it an excellent masterpiece.
Admiral Tibet - Victim Of Babylon / Version
Jammys / Dub Store Records JPN 1991
N/A
It is impossible not to mention Admiral Tibet when talking about Jammy’s golden digital era in the 80’s. With hits like “Running From Reality” and “Reality Time”, this is indeed another killer piece he recorded for Jammy. Working in combination with a jaunty rhythm with rough and tough bassline, the vocal instantly becomes prominent with its unforgettable chorus bringing even more drive to the music. When listening to the version on the flip, there is a great appreciation for utter simplicity in how Jammy builds his rhythms.
Chuck Turner - Ah No Me She Love / Version
Jammys / Dub Store Records JPN 1989
¥1980 (US$13.08)
Nothing happens without Chuck Turner on those Jammy’s melancholic digital rhythms. Although his compatibility is easily proven on tunes like “We Rule Dancehall” and “Run Around Girl”, this piece sits on top of everything. With his pleasantly different falset voice, Chuck Turner soulfully sings on this exquisite rhythm with significant melody. This brilliant music has even got a slight feeling of a modern piece - that is exactly when you realise the Jammy’s magic touch

Wailing Souls - Move On / Wackad - Cry For The Youths
Jammys / Dub Store Records JPN 1988/ 1989
N/A
Originally started as The Renegades onto The Classics, one of the most prominent vocal groups, Wailing Souls have been keeping it authentic since the 60’s. Although they did not record that many at the digital dancehall era this one has been well received since day. Having both roots and dancehall elements is one of the key factors of King Jammy’s sound and this one remains as a masterpiece with the sorrow vocals by Wailing Souls. On the flip an enormously rare Wackad ? Cry For The Youth who only released a few tracks from the late 80’s and early 90’s. Previously this can only be heard as a part of the compilation “King Jammy: A Man & His Music vol.1”.
Dennis Brown - Tracks Of Life / Nitty Gritty - Rub A Dub Kill You
Jammys / Dub Store Records JPN 1986
N/A
Coupling tracks by two of the most lamented and legendary artists who both recorded great albums for Jammy. For some reason Jammy’s magic makes Dennis Brown’s vocal sounds so much better and this heavy digital remake of the Studio One classic, “Swing Easy” is just another example. It is also known as the same rhythm track for King Everal ? Bad Girls. On the B-side, riding on the heavy tensional track, the charismatic vocalist from the 80’s, Nitty Gritty presents a smoky vocal warning all the soundboy out there.
Michael Rose - Peace And Love In The Ghetto / Dub
Jammys / Dub Store Records JPN 2015
¥1680 (US$11.10)
As a member of Black Uhuru, the grammy awarded Michael Rose reveals another unreleased material. Faithfully arranged by King Jammy, the rhythm is based on Horace Andy - Jah Is The One which was recorded in his classic “Pure Ranking”. Melancholic steppers rhythm with Rose’ iconic singing will surely touch your heart.

Owen Gray - Give Me A Little Sign / Raver
Studio One / Dub Store Records JPN 1967
¥2180 (US$14.40)
A perfect, yet low-keyed, Studio One Rocksteady double A-sided masterpiece!! Recorded in 1967 while Clement Dodd and Soul Vendors were on tour in the UK. The former Jamaican popular singer Owen Gray, who had already been living there then, voiced these unique pieces. It sounds very different from the ones recorded at Brentford Road, although both tunes certainly have the “Coxsone Sound” ? A masterpiece that is refined, and maximize the talent of this one-time star. Only ‘The Raver’ was recorded from the original master-tape.
Don Drummond, Skatalites - One Beer, One Scotch, One Burbon (Take 1) / One Beer, One Scotch, One Burbon (Take 2)
Federal / Dub Store Records JPN 1965
¥1580 (US$10.43)
Previously unreleased rare instrumental Ska masterpieces based on Rhythm and Blues classic!
These are the previously unreleased two instrumental cuts of the cheerful cover of Amos Milburn’s Jamaican sound system classic in the 50’s sung by Clive Wilson. Clearly great and with full of vibes, if your are a Ska Man there is no way to avoid these special tunes. *Recommended to pair this with the vocal version by Clive Wilson released on this very same series (DSR-FW7-02)

Wailers - Rock Sweet Rock / Jerk In Time
Studio One / Dub Store Records JPN 1966
¥2180 (US$14.40)
The Wailers have recorded a number of tunes for Studio One, however this release still gets talked a lot as its specialty. Recorded just before they left Studio One, this double A-sided single includes two of the best tunes that lead by Bunny Wailer himself. It’s even possible to hear in this excellent music that the time has come to ripen for the band to see the vision of starting up their own Wail ‘N’ Soul ’M’ label. Both sides are identical to its original release.
Minstrells - People Get Ready / Hamlins - Everyone Got To Be There
Studio One / Dub Store Records JPN 1968
¥2180 (US$14.40)
Studio One’s golden Rocksteady cover; even hipper and cooler than the original by the Impressions. The original has been known for its excellent lyric and melodies, thanks to the composer Curtis Mayfield, however the Minstrells brought this to a total perfection. Even though the Minstrells left us a small number of recordings, the great vocal group had such a high standard for every single one of them. If you’ve listened to the original press of this tune, you will find the intro has been cut, unfortunately that was the same deal for the master-tape itself. The nice rocksteady by the firm but short-lived Hamlins comes on the other side. Both have been recorded from the original master-tapes.
Bunny Wailer - Rule Dancehall / Rule Dancehall Version
Solomonic / Dub Store Records JPN 1987
N/A
Bunny produced a string of hits during the dance hall explosion of eighties where, backed by The Roots Radics, he continued to show the new generation how it should be done. The greatest of his dance hall style records was the self explanatory 'Rule Dance Hall' from 1987 originally released on the album of the same name and subsequently issued as a seven inch single. "East, west north and south I rule the land. I play original style while others play version…"
Sharks - You Made Me Warm / Sharks, Federal Studio Orchestra - You Made Me Warm
Kentone / Dub Store Records JPN 1965
¥1480 (US$9.77)
Previously unreleased early acoustic cut from master tape! Unprolific vocal group called Sharks (also spelled Sheiks) released the up-tempo original cut in 1965. The reissue features the original cut on the B-side and the early acoustic cut on the A-side. With raw double bass, deep acoustic guitar and backing chorus that reminds the chain gang work songs, the group sings astonishing love song. "I was so cold last night, You made me warm, with your heart, with your lips, with your charm"…The song purely transcends musical boundaries of the time and this is another Jamaican gem!
Keith & Tex - Hypnotizing Eyes / Down The Street
Move & Groove / Dub Store Records JPN 1968
N/A
By Keith & Tex, a vocal duo who represented Derrick Harriott's production, 「Hypnotizing Eyes」 was a hugely popular tune released at the end of Rocksteady era. The B-side,「Down The Street」was a pioneering sound of up-tempo Reggae that became the major style in 1969. From 1968 to 69, they recorded enough songs to make an album and amazingly all of them were top-notch. Re-issued original songs on both sides.
Wayne Smith - E20 / In Thing
Jammys / Dub Store Records JPN 1985
B: Come
¥1280 (US$8.45)
Wayne Smith scored numerous hits at Jammys and one well known is 'Under Mi Sleng Teng'. He also released same title album 'Under Mi Sleng Teng' where he showcased wavy & choppy 'E20' and crisp & clear song 'In Thing' on further computerized [Barrington Levy - Come] rhythm.
Michael Rose - African Queen / Dub
Jammys / Dub Store Records JPN 2015
King Pharaoh's Plague/Jesus Dread
¥1280 (US$8.45)
An unreleased track recorded for Jammy by the veteran Michael Rose who has been active at the forefront of reggae music since roots era to date. Just like his other hit tunes, the exceptional melody sense with tough yet sexy voice on remake of the ever glorious Yabby You’s “King Pharaoh’s Plague”, naturally absorbs every listener from start.
