While Dancehall has seen its international popularity in the 90's, the Mad House label was one of the most prolific labels. Many rhythms were released and raid by the label owner and producer, Dave Kelly. When the Joy Ride hit the street, it became his biggest hit to propel his musical career.
It is often said that the bassline of the rhythm was derived from a hit tune called 'Dangerous' by Conroy Smith on the Redman label. The impact on the scene was very clear as Dennis Star, Jah Life have respectively versioned this hit rhythm.
Recently, Birchill label has versioned it to create the 'Baddaz' rhythm and it secured other hits on the rhythm. |
