Channel One artist The Jays’ big dancehall tune for King Tubby. Although its pop element is clearly heard this one also consists of tougher side. Skillfully arranged in dancehall fashion yet deeply resonates with the spirit of roots reggae.

Possibly the first hit from then a newcomer producer Keith Hudson along with the iconic Dennis Alcapone deejay cut this tune will be passed on forever.

The true genius Keith Hudson introduced highly mutational sounds and sound effects at the time and this Pablo organ cut of “Peter & Judas” is no exception. Slightly different cut to the one included in “Flesh of My Skin Blood of My Blood” known as the monumental and arguably the first reggae concept album that is rated as important as “Blackboard Jungle Dub” in dub music. This cut is the fat original take mixed prior to the LP.

A few titles has been released on Suguar Minott’s ‘Conscious Lover’ rhythm but ‘Sugar Me’ by Conroy Smith is one of the most wanted records on the rhythm among collectors. On this smooth drifting rhythm, he sings mournfully but also with his sweet lyrics.

Half Pint’s massive hit on Sly & Robbie remake of Heavenless for Powerhouse which pretty much needs no introduction. It is said that this it the first ever tune the word “Raggamuffin” was used and has been praised as the dancehall anthem to date!

Recorded at the same time as The Crashers “Musical Fight” and it’s previously unreleased material. In early 1969 when the second press of Stranger Cole & Patsy’s “True Love” came out, the version was pressed on the B-side. The reason this vocal never came out is still unknown. Extremely rare rocksteady masterpiece recorded in 1967. Curiously sang in Chinese, this novelty record was originally pressed and spread within the Chinese community in Jamaica. Even though comparing to its entire population this island has exceptionally high rate of musical recordings, this could possibly be the only verified track solely sang in Chinese. One that has always been spoken about due to its oddity and should be succeeded eternally.

Studio One’s golden Rocksteady cover; even hipper and cooler than the original by the Impressions. The original has been known for its excellent lyric and melodies, thanks to the composer Curtis Mayfield, however the Minstrells brought this to a total perfection. Even though the Minstrells left us a small number of recordings, the great vocal group had such a high standard for every single one of them. If you’ve listened to the original press of this tune, you will find the intro has been cut, unfortunately that was the same deal for the master-tape itself. The nice rocksteady by the firm but short-lived Hamlins comes on the other side. Both have been recorded from the original master-tapes.

Another unreleased title from one of the popular dancehall artists of the 80’s, Super Black who is also known for his contribution for Jammys. Representing the sounds of Jammys at the time, this refined digital rhythm is built in minor chord with absolute simplicity, creating an excellent chemistry with the melancholic vocal.

Dancehall expert Pad Anthony left so many hit tunes for Jammy at the golden age of the label in the 80’s. “Ruff A Them” is a slightly Roots orientated killer rhythm with a twinkle of Jammy’s Dancehall essence to it. Pad Anthony going right in showcasing his dazzling melody sense.

Solid roots instrumentals produced by Aston "Family Man" Barrett of the Wailers. "Soul Constitution" sees soulful organ played on tight rhythm section leaning towards funky grooves. Hard to believe it was recorded at Randy's in 1971!

Although this Tubby’s version has never been released, “Nothing Don’t Come Easy” ended up being a big hit at Jammys and still been praised today. It’s the mid 80’s interpretation of 70’s roots reggae atmosphere. Hats off to the King!

After selling out the first 7” cut from her latest album within a couple of days, Japanese lovers rock singer Asuka Ando comes back with another single, “Jiri Jiri” including a dub from Jagabe (Reggaelation independence). One of the most talked about singers in Japanese circuit at the moment.

This is a Rocksteady cut of the Zodiacs' 'Walk On By' released in 1967. They recorded the original Ska cut at Duke Reid's Treasure Isle. Rare Rocksteady classic with beautiful harmonies on a profound rhythm. On the B-side, this previously unreleased material 'House Upon The Hill' features an unknown vocal group called Merritone singers.

Some people perhaps recognize the Untouchables for their Early Reggae works for Lee Perry. This is another crucial rare record to be reissued among Merritone catalogue. Originally released in 1967.

Those rare songs did not appear Hopeton Lewis’s classic Rocksteady album Take It Easy. ‘Rock A Shacka’ is truly a Rocksteady classic of all times. It’s a must item for all Rocksteady fans. With his dearest hope, he calmly sings ‘I don’t want no trouble now, no no no. I just can’t take troubles now, no no no. So let’s together in unity, let’s togther in prosperity’ backed by version accompanying heavy bass.

Derrick Harriott versions a Motown hit ‘Reach Out I Will Be There’. His killer version is a dancehall shaker and many might has been searching for this rare vinyl records as an essential for DJ selection. The Four Tops originally released the song in the mid 60’s. The mid-tempo organ instrumental ‘Illya Kuryakin’ feartures Ike Bennet’s powerful organ solo on the filpside.

By Keith & Tex, a vocal duo who represented Derrick Harriott's production, 「Hypnotizing Eyes」 was a hugely popular tune released at the end of Rocksteady era. The B-side,「Down The Street」was a pioneering sound of up-tempo Reggae that became the major style in 1969. From 1968 to 69, they recorded enough songs to make an album and amazingly all of them were top-notch. Re-issued original songs on both sides.

Originally started as The Renegades onto The Classics, one of the most prominent vocal groups, Wailing Souls have been keeping it authentic since the 60’s. Although they did not record that many at the digital dancehall era this one has been well received since day. Having both roots and dancehall elements is one of the key factors of King Jammy’s sound and this one remains as a masterpiece with the sorrow vocals by Wailing Souls. On the flip an enormously rare Wackad – Cry For The Youth who only released a few tracks from the late 80’s and early 90’s. Previously this can only be heard as a part of the compilation “King Jammy: A Man & His Music vol.1”.

Even after releasing the legendary “Sleng Teng” rhythm, King Jammy continued to produce hits after hits such as “Punnany”, “Duck” and many more. There is no doubt that he was at the top of the digital dancehall scene back then. Although he had put out an uncountable number of releases towards the end of the 80’s, this is one of the popular and rare tunes among record collectors. Beautifully sang in falset by Cornell Campbell on this melancholic digital rhythm makes it an excellent masterpiece.

A very well-acquainted Dancehall classic rhythm "Tonight". Vena's version is without a doubt one of the top rated remakes alongside Jammys'. Melodious and melancholic arrangement meets Tonny Tuff's gourgeous singing - it's the true charm of Dancehall music.
