Dave Robinson - Have To Go Thru / Vex Version

Leggo Sounds / Digikiller / Deeper Knowledge US 1985

Tempo

N/A

On 12" we have Dave Robinson's massive tune on Leggo's awesome lick of the tempo riddim. In 1985, as the original tempo riddim was booming up the scene, Leggo was moving back and forth between his Orange Street, Kingston homebase and the Bronx, NYC. In this time he released a few tunes only in NYC, and only on 12" disco, where the format was already long-favored. Among them was this, a wicked lick of the ruling tempo riddim, huge bass and fantastic instrumentation, again arranged by Leggo's cohort Flabba Holt, and voiced by veteran rootsman Dave Robinson. A big booming vocal and the deep dub, titled "Vex."

One tough rhythm, five vocal cuts (one previously unreleased!) and two different dub versions, spread across two twelve-inches. Produced at Channel 1 in the mid '80s, then voiced in New York, this Mikey Jarrett production is one of our favorite heavy rhythms of its era.

Dizzy Flemming - Resurrection / Mikey Jarrett - Starvation

14 Karat / Digikiller / Deeper Knowledge US 1984

N/A

"Resurrection" by the late great horns man Dizzy Flemming! This killer roots instrumental was produced by Mikey Jarrett and his friend Lloydie Prince in the early '80s, and saw only limited release in NYC as a 12" on the one-away MAN DINGO label, but became known as a sound system favorite in the UK.

Bunny Wailer - Rise & Shine / Solomonic Dub

Solomonic / Dub Store Records JPN 1981

N/A

Bunny continued to release records throughout the seventies that were never less than excellent and, as the new decade got underway, he came forward with one of his best ever releases: the militant clarion call 'Rise And Shine'. Stretched over two momentous sides of a UK twelve inch release, the record was a huge hit, but has been unavailable ever since. Bunny returned to the song on his superb 'Liberation' album at the close of the decade but the original cut has remained one of the most in-demand records on the 'revival' circuit.
